Acoustic Design
A state of the art
audio and video system can never be better than the room that it is placed
in. Through careful, professional, acoustic design, a system that was
destined to be "great" becomes one that wholly involves the
audience. The best way to describe this deep involvement in the experience
is a complete "suspension of disbelief". Whenever watching or
listening, we want our audience to forget their surroundings, giving in
to the illusion that they are actually part of the movie, or, listening
to a performer perform live.
The creation of this
illusion begins with the meticulous design of the room. Through computer
modeling and experience, we can predict what the room will sound like.
This process enables us to make changes in wall coverings, room shape,
speaker and furniture placement, along with many other variables, and
see what the exact result of making those changes will be.
This is a rendering
of a simple room. It allows us to see where we will have "hot spots"
of loudness, as well as reverberation times and reflections of sound in
the room. By changing variables like wall coverings and furniture placement
in software, we are able to accurately solve any problems that would come
up, long before construction begins.
