Introduction: Home Local Area Network

We are now in a new era in history, the Information Age. Information technology is profoundly changing the way we live, play, learn and do business. Today, we are only in the early stages of the Information Age; we could say that we are driving Model Ts while the future holds supersonic jets. There is one critical technology that will take us more quickly into the Information Age, and help us enjoy its benefits, and that technology is NETWORKING. Its potential and functionality is great.

The HLAN system allows our clients homes to be pre-wired in such a way that they are networked and ready for tomorrow's technology, while making the home more functional with present technologies. The HLAN system allows the homeowner ease of access to the information revolution. The owner can have peace of mind knowing his home's cabling system is futureproof. The HLAN system will integrate new and old information technologies and distribute interactive signals throughout the home. The homeowner can have greater enjoyment, convenience, and flexibility.

Our vision of future wiring needs has increasingly supported the use of fiber optics networks within the home, regardless of the media used by the various service providers to bring services to the house. Fiber optic networks are helping to create revolutionary advancements in business office products and services. The demand for these products and services has already extended from the workplace to the "home" office. Individuals working at home expect the same services and equipment performance levels they have been accustomed to at their traditional "office."

The HLAN system supports and promotes true peer-to-peer architecture, while creating by default a logical "centralized control point" by bringing all of the homes "nerve endings" neatly together at a patch panel located in the utility room. The system will support third party hardware, firmware and software from manufacturers and service providers, which will eliminate expensive duplication of stand-alone set top boxes, sub-system controllers, modems, and general electronic signal enhancement, etc. The HLAN patch panel will dramatically increase the efficiency of electronic designers and installers by providing easy access to all of the home's inputs/outputs for environmental, entertainment, and automation features.

Over the past forty years, the acceptance of new electrical products like air conditioners, TVs and microwaves have regularly overloaded the American home's electrical system and forced consumers to upgrade every fifteen to twenty years. In stark contrast, few American homes have upgraded their communication and audio/video cabling and will become hopelessly overloaded by the digital revolution in a few short years.

From our experience as residential system integrators, we have found ourselves pulling more and more wire as the home's sub-systems have become more sophisticated. We found ourselves taking more to make our connections neat and clean, but our customers were still not fond of the maze of wires, connectors and "black box" controls that covered whole walls. Making changes to the system wiring required additional time to unravel the wire maze and trace down cable sources and terminations. Armed with our knowledge of residential systems and our vision of future trends, we have designed a better way.

Our cabling bundle, consisting of two CAT 5 twisted pair, two RG-6 quad shield coax, and two or more multi-mode and single-mode fiber optic cables provide broadband access to every living space in the home! Our flexible and modular design is a complete structured cabling system solution that is not unattractive, unreliable or piece-meal and does not need to be replaced regularly!
